Touring Around Pokhara - Day 3
It didn't take us long to fall asleep after dinner last night. The bed is very comfortable and our bodies appreciated the luxury. I was a bit concerned about the music coming from a nearby club keeping us awake but that wasn't to be the case. Around 230 AM someone decided to rev up their motorcycle and that woke us both. We then found it hard to get back to sleep with the noise coming from the club.We realised we had left the windows open so closed them and went back to sleep.
The Heritage hotel and Suites is a beautiful old world Nepalese Hotel. Ornate carvings are everywhere you look, and our room is a deluxe suite which has a balcony overlooking the pool and patio area. Ironically the hotel is only around 5 years old according to one of the people who work here, but the look and feel is definitely old world which adds to its character. We had our breakfast with Peter around 9AM and it was a meal on par with everything else we have had so far. After Breakfast we came back to our rooms and prepared for a morning look around the lake.
On our way, we stopped off at Hearts and Tears MC, our tour operator and checked out the bikes. They had just got back from a large group touring the Mustang region and all bikes were in need of a good clean. No doubt they will be done by Monday. One group of ladies asked me to take a group pic for them, and then insisted on taking pictures with us. We made our way to the lake and took in the local sights, people and culture. There may have been a wedding happening somewhere because a lot of people were all dressed up for the day. After a wander along the shore we stopped at a boat hire. We booked a boat complete with driver/paddler to take us to the island with the Stupa for the sum of 1150 NPR or about $12.50 AUD. It took around 15 minutes to get to the island and about 10 minutes to walk around it. It is a very popular place and the crowd on such a small island was incredible. Done with the island we were then taken on a lap of the island and return to the boat launch.
Wandering back along the shore we stopped for a drink of fresh coconut juice and then the coconut flesh. We think they jacked the price up because we are tourists but have no qualms about paying extra as this is their income, besides Peter paid for this one. A little further down the road we stopped for a coffee. this was the best coffee we have had since we left home. Peter had a message that Zelda was back from her trek now, so we headed back to the hotel via a massage spa. We booked in for 5 massages later in the afternoon and continued on.
Back at the hotel we finally caught up with Zelda and Michael (who went trekking with Zelda) The awesome foursome from Kyrgyzstan were back together after 3 years for another ride. Michael is a new addition to our group so he doesn't know what he is in for ......... YET!
Mid afternoon we headed back to the coffee shop for a snack and drink as a whole group and then on to our massages. Jiva Spa i s the location for our massage and I highly recommend it for anyone brave enough to take a bus ride from Kathmandu. After 1 hour our bodies felt totally relaxed and ready to take on the world. Maybe a grandpa nap first just to let the massage do its job.
Tomorrow is another tourist day for us before the big trek so expect some more pics and details
